Learn Olympic weightlifting technique from experienced Olympic lifting coaches. Complete beginners are very welcome.
Olympic weightlifting is a fun and absorbing activity that will challenge you both physically and mentally. You’ll move better, become stronger, and feel amazing!
Getting started with Olympic Weightlifting
We offer beginners sessions in Olympic Weightlifting, held in our London Gym.
Our beginners sessions are suitable for those completely new to the Olympic lifts. We have two options available:
1 Olympic Weightlifting Beginners Course (incl PT session)
This is our ultimate beginners package for learning the olympic lifts! This beginners course includes:
- 6 x 1-hour small group classes over 3 weeks (Wed 7.30pm & Sat 1pm)
- 1-hour private PT session with a senior weightlifting coach
- Feedback on your lifts and personalised advice to help you get the best from the course
- Your first regular class is included
In this beginners course, we cover technique for the snatch and clean & jerk every week. Each session we break down the movement and show you how to perform the movements efficiently. Week by week, we’ll build up the complexity. By the end of the course, you will be confidently performing the snatch and the clean & jerk.
We find that the twice-per-week format works better than once a week, as participants remember more, learn quicker, and maintain momentum from session to session.
You’ll be working in a small group with a senior weightlifting coach – and you’ll even get a private 1-2-1 session with the coach to work on your own specific issues.
Once you’ve completed the course, you are invited to attend a class (included in the price) to experience regular weightlifting training.
This course is suitable for complete beginners, or those who have tried the olympic lifts and want to learn correct technique.
Course days and times: Wednesdays 7.30pm-8.30pm and Saturdays 1pm-2pm
Price: £275 – includes 6-session course, PT session and your first class
Next course starts on: Wednesday 13 September 2023. Book online here.
Course dates: 13, 16, 20, 23, 30 Sept, 4 Oct 2023. If you can’t make these dates, please contact us using the form below, to be informed when our next course is open for booking.
“As a 58 year old woman who’d never set foot in a gym since leaving school, I assumed I wouldn’t really fit in, and that I wouldn’t go near a barbell again once I’d finished the course, but the course and the people at Strength Ambassadors gave me so much more than I was expecting.
Well before the end of the course I knew I wanted to continue with weightlifting, and I’d seen enough of the community at Strength Ambassadors to know I’d be welcomed and encouraged at any of the regular classes.” – Fiona C, August 2022
2 Intro to Olympic Weightlifting taster workshop
Our Intro workshops are ideal if you are curious about olympic weightlifting and want to give it a try. You don’t need any experience, and we love having newcomers trying the lifts.
Over 2 hours, we’ll run you through the two olympic lifts – the snatch and the clean & jerk – and give you a feel for what this exciting sport is all about.
Once you have completed our Intro workshop, you will be able to move on to our 6-session Olympic Weightlifting Beginners Course (see above). In the course, you’ll learn correct and efficient technique in the lifts and be able to start training like a weightlifter!
We run our Intro workshops on a Saturday afternoon. The cost of the 2-hour workshop is £49.

What do our customers say about our beginners courses and workshops?
“I was buzzing after the course yesterday. I love learning new stuff and expanding my training options, and as I said the course exceeded my expectations in every way!”
– Sam N
“Just wanted to say thank you for organising and running the course yesterday! It was very well structured & put together. My lower body felt far less stiff in the gym today, once warmed up I even managed a minute sitting in a deep squat with my toes pointed forward; miraculous for me!! ”
– Richard K
“Before the workshop I was apprehensive: the lifts seemed very complicated, and I’d been told my whole life that women aren’t strong. The workshop broke down each lift into smaller chunks that I could work on at my own pace. Safety was always a priority along with encouragement to challenge myself when I was ready. After the workshop I felt amazingly empowered: at 46 I have never felt stronger or more capable!”
– Eleni K
“Thanks for today, it was awesome. I have been looking for something challenging for my own workouts and am stoked to have something to have fun with now and double bonus I will now know what I am doing in front of all the bloke PTs at the gym”
– Lauren S
