Joanna Taylor did my Ladies Who Lift course and went on to do personal training with me. Her hard work led to fantastic results in a short space of time – Jo lost 6.6% body fat in just 8 weeks! Over to Jo…
Just over a year ago I was a real cardio bunny – spending hours in the gym taking classes like body attack and combat and running on the treadmill.
I always believed this was the way to get and stay in shape, but despite all my efforts I did get smaller but I never felt very toned.
Then I started to read more about resistance training and how you could change your shape and become fitter and healthier by lifting weights.
As one of my friends says: ‘Running makes you look better in clothes, but lifting weights makes you look better naked!’
“So where to start?”
If you’re familiar with the free weights area at any gym you’ll know it can be an intimidating place, full of giant, grunting men and reeking of testosterone.
As a woman and a newbie to all of this, it’s too terrifying to contemplate. And this is where Sally’s course – Ladies who lift – comes in.
Sally really knows her stuff and watching her expert form and strength is really inspiring. I found the course online and immediately signed up.
On the first day, Sally took us over to the squat racks and showed us how to set them up properly. Even knowing this part is a huge step towards feeling confident enough to step out of the cardio area and towards the barbells.
Over the course we learned the three basic powerlifting moves – squat, deadlift and bench press – as well as supplemental moves like shoulder presses, rows and push ups.
“I felt ready to tackle the weights room on my own.”
At the end of the course I felt empowered and ready to tackle the weights room on my own. What’s more, I enjoyed working with Sally so much that I actually signed up for personal training with her.
And don’t worry about bulking up through weight training. Over the past two months I have lost a stone in weight, 6 per cent body fat and I just look leaner, smaller and tighter, with great definition.
Sally now offers BioSignature Modulation as part of the course as well and this is really worthwhile if you’re looking to shape up. Whoever said that you can’t spot reduce has obviously never tried this. It shows up which parts of your body are your problem areas and then you can work on these through the clever manipulation of diet and supplements. I was able to change my slightly pear shaped figure to more of an hourglass, which has been great.
“I look leaner, smaller and tighter, with great definition.”
I would recommend the course to anyone who wants to take their fitness training to the next level. Us girls can do just as much as the men and when you know what you’re doing, those intimidating men in the weights room tend to be full of admiration. There’s nothing more attractive than a strong, powerful woman.
So ladies, what are you waiting for? Let’s show then men we’re a force to be reckoned with and, in the process, sculpt our ideal body.
